The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) here marked the start of the annual celebration of the National Women's Month with an office-wide cleanup activity.

According to Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo, the event aimed to promote environmental awareness, as well as gender equality and women empowerment among the employees and stakeholders of the agency.

Nearly 280 kilos of trash and segregated recyclables were collected in the premises of the regional and field offices.

Some 1,500 bags of soil for growing indigenous tree seedlings were prepared in potting activities, and 100 narra seedlings were planted in various tree-growing events conducted by field offices.

Pablo also said that the cleanup was a symbolic gesture of the Agency’s commitment to protect and conserve the environment, by empowering and uplifting women in the society.

The activity also served as a team-building exercise, marked by a health and wellness Zumba session, that fostered camaraderie and cooperation among the staff and partners, including the Pilmico.
